From an idea to a platform: building CrewFinder

← Back to journal

CrewFinder started with a simple problem: finding the right people to get out on the water with isn't always as easy as it should be. We wanted to create a platform that makes that connection simpler, bringing boat owners and people looking for opportunities together in one place.

What started as an idea has developed into a working platform, and we're continuing to build it around the people who actually use it.

Where the idea came from

As a keen and ambitious sailor myself, I found that building sea miles and gaining yachting experience is often difficult without the right connections. Opportunities tend to circulate within closed networks, leaving capable and enthusiastic newcomers on the shore. I built this website to change that: a platform where people from all watersports backgrounds can connect, discover opportunities, and gain valuable experience on the water, without being held back by who they know.

Building it

Getting CrewFinder from a mere idea into a full functional website has been a challenge. But although the proccess required some long hours and lots of failed test models it was definately worth the effort to have built something with the potential to offer so many new and exiting opportunities to so many people.

What's next

The next steps for CrewFinder is first of all to build a name for itself and start spreading the opportunities it was built for, bringing people into a new side of watersports and helping grow the community.
